Weekly reflection 6

This week we had the opportunity in joining teacher Pro-D day sessions, and the two sessions I joined was the Student AI Literacy Lessons K-12 and Student Cybersecurity Awareness Lessons (3-12). Unfortunately, there was technology issues with the first session “Student AI Literacy Lessons K-12” so I was unable to attend this session which I was really bummed about. Thankfully, I was able to get into the second session “Student Cybersecurity Awareness Lessons (3-12)” and it was really interesting so I am glad I was able to hear Mike speak on this subject. We looked at this a little bit last week but we really got to delve into the topic this week on the FocusED website.

Focused education (specifically for cybersecurity) is a resource for teachers to have accessible tools for promoting the secure use of technology so that students can protect their privacy and create a safe school environment. We began our session with watching a couple easy to understand videos that would be great to show students that surrounded ideas like how to make their passwords secure. Later, we looked through different lesson plans and teacher guides provided for each age level all surrounding around different aspects of cybersecurity such as social media influence, cyberbullying, etc. I thought the amount of resources for teachers to use in their classroom on focusED was extremely helpful along with splitting up the specific lesson plans into age levels to make sure it is tailored to those specific learners.

FocusED seemed to use these 5 phrases to help understand what cybersecurity is and how they teach it so I thought it would be useful to share those 5 phrases.

Community & Information Sharing: Collaboration is key to fight cyber threats.

Awareness & Education: Learn how to identify and prevent cyber attacks.

Prevent & Protect: Proactive measures to fortify your defenses.

Detect & Monitor: Early detection helps manage and mitigate cyber incidents.

Respond & Recover: Strong protocols ensure swift recovery from cyber attacks.
